Make baking a family affair. Even very young kids can help decorate cookies set out a tasty selection of candies and frosting for the culinary artists. To make measuring easier (and cleaner!), put flour and sugar in wide-mouthed containers or bowls where there's plenty of room to scoop. Buy a set of inexpensive plastic cookie cutters-metal cutters can be sharp.

For a more consistent cookie, let kids scoop out the dough with small ice cream scoops and form the shapes by hand.

Kids love to help with presentation as well as baking. Make your cookie platters extra pretty with fluffy white coconut flakes, powdered sugar and candies.

Create custom cookies by tracing a simple shape onto cardboard, cutting out the form, placing it on top of rolled-out sugar cookie dough and cutting around the outside of the template. Let your creativity run wild...
